MOLDOVAN SOCIALISTS TO MARK INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH ACTIONS OF PROTEST

25 august, 2015

The opposition Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM, having the largest faction in the Moldovan Parliament) will mark the Independence Day of August 27 with actions of protest across Moldova, Party Chairman Igor Dodon announced at a news conference on Tuesday.

Dodon regards Moldova to be “a state seized by oligarchs and unionists [adherents to the idea of Unire – Moldova’s unification with Romania]”.

“Oligarchs control the Moldovan Parliament, while unionists – key ministries of government. The Moldova population has been deprived of rights, and thrown to survive face to face with numerous problems. To earn one’s living, one-third of the Moldovan population went abroad for jobs – more that 1 million people. A considerable part of production enterprises and whole economy sectors have been devastated and ruined or thievishly privatized by oligarchs. Compared with 1989, Moldova’s annual gross domestic product has shrunk by one-third. And the crisis of the incumbent liberal “European” power would not stop but, on the contrary, would keep aggravating. I don't think that the new Government is capable of anything else except servicing to the oligarchs’ interests”, stated Igor Dodon.

He is convinced that the only way out of the current situation of a systemic crisis is an early parliamentary election to be followed by a direct election of president by the whole nation, “so that the head of state be a real leader, not a clown”.

“Mass-scale public protesting by working population masses must become a catalyst for such elections. We are calling on the whole citizenry to come out into streets and protest against the power of thieves and nation robbers, against oligarchs and unionists. On August 27, we will hold a rally in Chisinau, after which will go to provincial localities. The wave of protesting must roll across all raions –from Briceni to Cahul and from Cahul to Stefan Voda. By the end of September, we will return to Chisinau and will get rid of this governance”, stated the PSRM leader.
