PARLIAMENT SPEAKER BEWILDERED ABOUT RADICAL DEMANDS OF PROTESTERS

14 september, 2015

Chairman of the Parliament Adrian Candu expressed bewilderment about radical demands of protest action participants. Speaking at the Prime TV channel on Sunday, he said that fulfillment of these demands can only worsen the Moldovan crisis.

“I am slightly confused because of protesters’ demands. If last week the demands were reasonable, they could be discussed and included in authorities’ agenda, now the position of protesters became radical; they want resignation of everyone and everything. This will not lead to anything good. Resignations, demanded by protesters, will lead the country to a deep political and economic crisis”, Candu said.

He reminded that the current Government is working only 45 days.

“Over this time, the Cabinet of Ministers proved it can and wants to work. The action has been taken on many initiatives already, we have a reform plan, we are working on implementation of the European Union Association Agreement. All this should be taken into account”, said Parliament Chairman.

He also pointed at the fact that the Government is getting ready for negotiations with the IMF mission, which is going to come to Chisinau next week.

“Much turns on this visit and results of negotiations. The IMF comes to discuss reforms. They do not conduct negotiations with temporary governments and temporary ministers and we have to understand this”, the speaker stressed.

He criticized the behavior of protesters, who turned away on Sunday people with a different point of view, including supporters of Moldova’s unification with Romania.

“This is not normal – to throw oneself upon people only because they have different political position. Protesters demand democracy, but their behavior does not fit any democratic framework”, Candu said.
