ROMANIA’S SUPPORT FOR MOLDOVA’S EUROPEAN INTEGRATION IS NOT AIMED AT UNIREA – AMBASSADOR DANIEL IONITA

22 july, 2016

Romania’s policy of support for the Republic of Moldova’s Euro-integration strivings does not at all mean unification of the two countries, the recently appointed new Romanian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova, Daniel Ionita, stated in his meeting with the ex-President of Moldova, Chairman of the Communist Party MP Vladimir Voronin.

The diplomat stressed that the main purpose of his diplomatic mission in Moldova is to render assistance to promoting the reforms aimed at the republic’s integration with the European Union.

The interlocutors discussed the political and socio-economic situation in Moldova. Voronin offered an opinion that the country’s entire state organism has been plagued with corruption.

“Our incumbent authorities apparently believe that the poorer Moldova citizens become, the easier it will be to manipulate with them and to bribe them [into ‘correct’ voting at elections]. Meanwhile, the situation with the billion euros stolen from Moldovan banks would not be clarified, and the provision of new Romanian grants and credits to Moldova will only prompt the incumbent oligarchic authorities to new thefts from the State Budget “, believes the ex-President of Moldova.

Voronin and Ionita discussed also the perspectives of settlement of the Transnistrian problem and shared the opinion that its solution must be based primarily on the principle of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.
