OP PRESIDENCY SEEKER SUBMITS SIGNATURES TO CEC

22 september, 2016

Prominent Moldovan journalist Dmitry Ciubasenco, applicant for the presidential candidacy from the Partidul Nostru [Our Party], submitted the citizens’ signatures, collected in his support, to the Central Election Commission on Thursday.

The applicant presented 25 thousand signatures from 30 populated areas (including Chisinau, Balti and Gagauzia) in 29 Moldovan raions.

“The signatures were raised carefully and without haste. We realize that being an opposition party we have no right to make mistakes at document preparation. Citizens’ attitude to us and the signature raising was good. They showed no aggression, only full understanding”, said the applicant.

He stressed that at the signature raising, Our Party activities were fully abiding by the law, “but I can’t say the same about parties of power”.

Dmitry Ciubasenco remarked that far from all governing parties behave in harmony with the law: “At least for 3 so-called ‘independent’ candidates, signatures are being collected by Democratic Party activists”.

A member of the OP leadership, Chisinau municipal councilor and a member of the Ciubasenco electoral headquarters Ilian Casu called such work methods used by the Democrats as “outrageous lawlessness”.

“Our Party does not step an inch from the legal procedure. But other parties are using impermissible methods of signature raising and unlimited administrative resources. To present our financial expenditures at the signature raising stage of the election campaign, Our Party will make public its financial report. We want to be open to our voters to a maximum-possible extent because we don't use unlawful methods in our work”, said Ilian Casu.

Ciubasenco said that Our Party had spent about 400 thousand lei at the signature raising stage – expenses on gasoline, calendars and advertising of the OP candidate in the social networks, and that Our Party paid absolutely nothing to citizens for their signing in support of its candidate.

Dmitry Ciubasenco has thus become the 6th applicant to have submitted signatures to the CEC. Four of the previous 5 such runners have already been registered officially as presidential candidates. The signature submission deadline is September 29.
