RUSSIAN EMBASSY EXPRESSES INDIGNATION AT XENOPHOBIC SAYINGS BY LIBERAL MINISTER

19 octomber, 2016

The Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova has expressed indignation at the xenophobic statements made in the social networks by the Moldovan Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure, Iurie Chirinciuc.

“The grievous insults on ethnic soil by a person holding such high a state post is but a crying violation of international legal norms, including of criminal legislation, as well as of the rules of civilized behavior in democratic countries of the world”, said the press release issued by the diplomatic mission.

The Russian Embassy expressed surprise over how come the chauvinist rhetoric of the prominent member of the Liberal Party, a component of the Moldovan ruling coalition, goes together so amicably with the Moldovan leadership’s statements about its adherence to the European values of multiculturalism, tolerance and struggle against discrimination, and about the desire to achieve reintegration of the country.

“The question arises how such behavior of Minister Chirinciuc’s is correlated with the Chisinau-declared course for normalization of relations with the Russian Federation, including in the spirit of the Russia-Moldova accords reached recently at various levels”, said the press release.

The Russian Embassy expressed hope that “the chauvinistic trick by the high Moldovan official will receive a corresponding reaction from the Moldovan authorities, including from Moldovan law enforcement agencies”.

Infotag’s dossier: Four days ago, Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Iurie Chirinciuc, who is one of the key figures in the parliamentary Liberal Party, wrote in his blog that Moldova’s approximation with Russia “is the worst of all evils that may only happen to citizens of Moldova”. Formulating this exotic thought, the Minister of the Moldovan Government named the Russian nation “lazybones and drunkards”. Upon learning this, the Association of Russian-Language Journalists of Moldova addressed to the Prosecutor General’s Office. After that, Iurie Chirinciuc’s article was withdrawn from his blog, and those websites that reprinted it were blocked.
