SOCIALISTS DEMANDING BETTER SOCIAL PROTECTION, INSISTING ON SNAP ELECTION

21 february, 2017

The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), having the largest faction of 24 in the 101-member Parliament of Moldova, is demanding from the Government efficient measures to ensure reliable social protection to the population and is insisting on holding an early parliamentary election in Moldova, reads the PSRM Statement issued today on the occasion of the World Day of Civil Justice marked under the United Nations’ aegis every February 20.

According to the Day organizers, this international date should promote the rooting out of poverty, provide people with full employment and good jobs, and should eliminate barriers suffered by people with limited possibilities.

“Unfortunately, the Government of Moldova has once again ignored the possibility to raise the question of overcoming poverty in our country. The Moldovan society lives in the conditions of a crying social inequality. The gap between the poor and the rich broadens each year”, said the Statement.

The Socialists wrote that about one million people in Moldova live below the poverty level having no possibility to obtain the most necessary things such as food or medicines. Utility tariffs are constantly growing, and unemployment is going up.

“Yet another million of our compatriots have to earn their living abroad. Their families remain without a proper care, and children become social orphans with living parents. Such situation cannot be qualified other than a social genocide”, believe the document authors.

In their opinion, “In such a situation, the Government has committed a new cynical act – placed the burden of returning the stolen billion euros on citizens’ shoulders”.

“The Party of Socialists demands from the Government effective measures to ensure social protection for citizens. We insist on canceling the criminal law on converting the stolen bank money into a state debt. We will be insisting on raising pensions minimum twice a year. Pension is not a tip. It must ensure a worthy living at the old age”, said the PSRM Statement.

Its authors underlined that in the current conditions, when the parliamentary majority is under the control of one party [Plahotniuc’s Democratic] substantial changes or positive transformations in the country are impossible.

“That is exactly why we will be using all possible legal means to hold an early parliamentary election that should lead to the formation of a popular government. The people of Moldova deserve a worthy living. And we are intending to achieve social justice in our society by all possible means”, stated the Party of Socialists.
