PRESIDENT DODON SAYS HE WILL BE WORKING FOR CONSOLIDATION OF MOLDOVA’S STATEHOOD AND IDENTITY

24 march, 2017

Moldovan President Igor Dodon has reaffirmed his resolution to consistently struggle for consolidation of the Moldovan statehood and Moldovan identity.

Opening the international conference “The Moldovan Statehood: Historic Connection and Development Perspectives”, which is being held in Chisinau on Friday under the President’s auspices, Igor Dodon said that this is the first such event taking place in Moldova over last 15 years.

“Nobody has cared here to consolidate the country’s statehood and Moldovan identity. Moreover, the name of the language as “Romanian” was imposed on citizens of Moldova. The young generation studies “The History of the Romanians” discipline at school. The Moldovan statehood is gradually ruined and sunk into oblivion. It is just incredible: our children are taught the myths and imperial ideology of the neighbor state, whereas the Moldovan political elite are assenting to this destructive process. Without identity there can be no state. And without a state the nation degrades”, said the President.

Igor Dodon is convinced that the Moldovan statehood can be saved only through social and intellectual mobilization and that “We must stop the process of Romanianization of our country. Moldova has a language of its own and a rich history. We shall be defending all this and consolidating our State”.

The President voiced regret that the advocates of consolidation of the Moldovan State cannot always count on the support by the Moldovan Academy of Sciences.

“It may sound paradoxical but the Academy, which is maintained by Moldovan taxpayers, defends the interests and ideology of another country. We shall correct this situation. It’s not long to wait, I promise you”, stated Igor Dodon.

The President briefed the forum about the steps already made in the context of strengthening the statehood and Moldovan identity. Among them were: the change of the official language’s name from Romanian to Moldovan, the return of the historic flag of the Moldovan State, the legislative initiative on institutionalization of Statehood Day, handing in Orders in honor of the first Gospodar [King] of the independent medieval Principality of Moldavia – Bogdan the Voievod.

President Dodon said that an active work is under way to make a big documentary about the history of Moldova. The film will be issued by the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Moldovan Democratic Republic to be marked on December 2, 2017.

“Copies of that film will be distributed all over the country. We shall be cultivating love for the Motherland in citizens, consolidating the Moldovan Statehood and Identity. Our main objective is to create a Moldovan civil nation, with equality of all peoples living here”, stated President Igor Dodon.
