OPPOSITION LEADER APPREHENDS “PLAHOTNIUC DICTATORSHIP” IN MOLDOVA

18 april, 2017

Alexandru Slusari, Deputy Chairman of the political party called Platform Demnitate si Adevar [DA, “Dignity and Justice”], apprehends in earnest the appearance of the dictatorship of one person – Vlad Plahotniuc.

In his interview with the Tribuna portal, Slusari said: “Plahotniuc has understood that by means of geopolitical blackmail he can well establish his personal dictatorship in Moldova, if to camouflage it expertly with European Union flags and slogans. On all the protesting of the awakening nation, he used one and the same argument for the West: the protesting will bring pro-Russia forces to power. I presume the United States has made a serious mistake by recognizing the incumbent parliamentary majority formed by using overt, barefaced blackmail and corruption”.

In his opinion, each day of Plahotniuc’s staying in power reduces the number of supporters of the European development vector in Moldova.

“Against such a background, President Igor Dodon and the Party of Socialists only find it easier to wage their election campaign – even in conditions when it has become apparent that the head of state is not going to wage war against Plahotniuc. He only needs to play the card of a friend of Russia and to keep inventing explanations why he is not able to do anything. And Plahotniuc, whose awful unpopularity is severely undermining the European idea in Moldova, keeps blackmailing the West with an inevitable coming of pro-Russia forces to power, and as an argument for preventing such development of events he demands their blessing for creating an authoritarian state in Moldova”, said Alexandru Slusari.

The politician regards the current situation in Moldova as very hard but not hopeless.

“For the beginning, our external partners should stop financing Moldova proceeding merely from our passing ‘correct laws’ and ‘necessary strategies’. Moldova needs to have very strict conditions of the practical realization of the said laws and strategies, so that citizens could feel an effect, particularly in the spheres of struggle against corruption and in the judiciary reform. What’s the use of having e.g. an almost full package of anti-corruption laws, if the authorities would not let the new Integrity Agency start working? As a result, for nearly one year now nobody has been examining the state officials’ declarations of income”, said Slusari.

He is convinced that the country’s external partners must delegate their representatives for work in Moldovan law enforcement agencies, in the prosecution service and courts – with broadest plenary powers.

“In such case, may be we will have a hope for learning who really had a finger in the embezzlement of the billion euros from Moldovan banks and who of politicians were patronizing that robbery. With foreigners working here, very many criminal schemes, strangling the national economy, will start to be liquidated”, said the DA Platform Deputy Chairman.

Alexandru Slusari also believes that a really independent judiciary system will resolve the Plahotniuc problem.

“If the main capturer of the country is eliminated from the scene, then there can be several variants of the development of events, for instance an early parliamentary election or the formation of a government of national salvation that will receive the support of a parliamentary majority that has come out from under Plahotniuc’s control. Such team will quickly start implementing deep and real reforms, particularly in the sphere of the judiciary and struggle against corruption. Certainly, there will be no revision of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement. By the next parliamentary elections, the country may be brought back to a minimum-normal situation”, said Alexandru Slusari.
