EU DELEGATION HEAD IS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT MOLDOVA'S PERSPECTIVES IN EUROPEAN INTEGRATION PROCESS

01 december, 2017

Ambassador Peter Michalko, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova attended the 5th annual forum for Moldova's European integration, organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Moldova and the Foreign Policy Association.

The diplomat said that the Moldova's development on the way of European integration looks optimistic.

"Moldova is efficiently using the economic and social instruments for achieving European standards. A special attention should be pointed to the fulfillment of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, which is being successively and productively implemented, which demonstrates the authorities' political will for achieving the ultimate goal", Michalko said.

According to him, the agreement implies a clear action plan - the fulfillment of each provision will help changing life in Moldova to better.

"For success at the European path, it is necessary that each citizen to understand and feel what exactly he gets from European reforms. The result of Moldova-EU partnership should touch each Moldovan citizen", the diplomat said.

He added that in the process of Moldova-EU relations there were crises, recessions and disappointments.

"For example the 2014-2015 banking crisis lowered the EU trust in its partner. However, Pavel Filip Government managed to prove that Moldova is able to implement reforms and deal with challenges. Important is to have desire, aspiration to achieve success", Michalko said.

According to him, the authorities should focus their attention on creating an independent justice system, which will serve as basis for other important economic and social reforms, including in attracting investments.

"It is very important to ensure fair justice, exclude the selective application of justice. Also, it is important to ensure the real independence of media, fair access of all the media to advertisement market. It is fundamental that citizens to feel the results of reforms, while we to see the progress and no regress in reforms", the Ambassador said.
