DEMOCRATIC PARTY WINS TWO MORE MANDATES OF MAYORS

The Democrats won two more mandates of populated area mayors at the local elections held last Sunday.

According to the Central Election Commission, candidate Valeriu Poiatu of the Democratic Party won in the second round in the Chisinau suburban community of Singera. He received 53.76% votes thus defeating his Socialist rival. The voter turnout was merely 31.88%.

In the Berlinti Village (Briceni Raion), DP candidate Viorica Oleinic won 51.14%, defeating a Socialist.

On November 19, local elections were held in 10 populated areas, and on that day the Democrats won mayoral posts in 8 localities. In the rest two areas, the second round of elections was held on December 3, and the Democrats won in both.
