PARLIAMENT COMMITTEE FOR ASSOCIATION TO PREPARE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MOLDOVA

05 april, 2018

After the closing of the Parliament Committee for EU-Moldova Association Agreement sitting, a joint declaration will be adopted, in which recommendations for Moldova will be included, said Committee Co-Chairman Eugen Carpov of the European People’s Group at a press conference during Thursday’s Committee sitting.

He said that the sitting participants already managed to discuss the extent of implementing the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, the stabilization of the republic’s banking system, while within the second part of the sitting it is planned to discuss the issues, connected with the independence of the justice system, the fight against corruption, the administrative reform, the cooperation with the civil society, the media and the audiovisual sphere freedom.

“Within discussions we established a fair dialog which allows presenting the results of our activity and analyzing the perspectives for future, as well as priorities that demand additional efforts for promoting democratic reforms necessary for Moldova”, said.

The Committee Co-Chairman Andi Cristea said that the sitting is a great possibility for controlling the fulfillment of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, especially taking into account that parliamentary elections will be held in Moldova in the second half of the year, while next year the European Parliament election campaign will start.

“There are great chances that the today’s meeting is the last in the current membership. Since 2014, everything the European Parliament could do for promoting Moldova’s pro-European course was done. In 2014, the Association Agreement was very quickly ratified, in the following years, export quotas for Moldova were doubled, while in 2017 the decision was taken on providing macro-financial assistance for Moldova”, he said.

According to him, the Moldovan authorities should make additional efforts for achieving success in difficult fields, among which the justice reforming. However, we can see successes in the field of the administrative reform, the entrepreneurial and social field, as well as banking system stabilization, which contributed to strengthening of foreign investors’ trust in Moldova.
