DEPUTY PREMIER LEANCA SAYS OPPOSITION SHOULD SPEAK OF MOLDOVA’S FUTURE INSTEAD OF ONLY CRITICIZING THE AUTHORITIES

19 june, 2018

The Right opposition, which stands for Moldova’s European integration, should speak with Brussels officials about the country’s future instead of constantly criticizing the authorities, though there indeed are grounds for criticism, believes Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Affairs Iurie Leanca.

He said at a news conference on Tuesday that Moldovan politicians waste too much energy for domestic struggle but are not particularly interested in what happens outside the republic.

“Meanwhile, so many different events are taking place around – good and bad, but the unending domestic struggle does not let us look into our own future. But the situation in our region depends on events happening in the West. In Italy, for instance, a new Government has been formed of populist forces that suggest cancelling sanctions against Russia”, remarked Iurie Leanca.

In his opinion, the question of the European integration of Moldova and other countries of the region should be in the center of the European Union’s attention “because without this the republic has no chance for development and no future”.

“Moldova’s future should be handled not only by our governing parties but also by the pro-European opposition. During their voyages to Brussels and other European capitals, the opposition ought to speak of Moldova in the context of European integration”, said Iurie Leanca.

He believes that after the parliamentary election due at the end of 2018, Moldova will come to have a pro-European alliance in power.
