PSRM WILL SEEK CANCELLATION OF COURT DECISION ON ELECTION RESULTS NULLIFYING

The Party of Socialists will do all in its powers for cancellation of the Chisinau Court decision on recognizing the Chisinau mayoral election results as null and void, ex-candidate for Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban, the Chairman of the PSRM faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council [city legislature], stated at a news conference on Wednesday.

In his words, the Court passed an obviously wrong and unfair judgment that had a bright political coloring.

“The justice has thus worked in favor of the ruling Democratic Party. The PSRM will wait until receiving the ‘statement of motivation’ part of the court decision, when we will only be eligible to challenge it. And upon the whole, we can only say that all this is but a continuation of the authorities’ dirty games, of their absurd theater. We did not demand to throw anybody out of the elections, or annul election results or not to approve the mandate of the mayor elect. We only demanded a statement of the fact of law violations that took place during the election campaign. That was the essence of our inquiry”, stressed Ion Ceban.

In his words, “There really were violations of the law, they were apparent to all, so it was necessary to draw the public’s attention to them. But we did not seek cancellation of the election! That’s why we will necessarily challenge the court decision with the Chisinau Appeals Court”.

Answering journalists’ questions, Ceban said he would not agree to become Chisinau Mayor as a result of such court decision, “no, I don’t need such a victory”.

In his words, the PSRM is thus becoming the chief loser in this situation because it is precisely the PSRM that will be blamed as the responsible for non-recognition of the election results.

“As for Andrei Nastase, this situation suits him because he is now standing up in the role of a victim, and he will feel more comfortable and at home in the streets as the leader of protesters”, said Ion Ceban.

“But we need Nastase in the Chisinau Primaria [city government] as a mayor, and not as a rebel in the streets. Let him demonstrate in deeds his professional, administrative and organization talents of a mayor. We need Nastase in the Primaria so as to prove that we are better”, explained Ion Ceban.

In his words, the court decision suits everybody except the Socialists because “Nastase is sacrificing himself and is thus raising his political rating, whereas the authorities are preserving their influence in the Primaria”.

“All this is the product of the Court’s dubious judgment. As we can see, the proclaimed judiciary reform is remaining Moldova’s main problem. Presently, our judiciary is continuing to depend entirely on the authorities i.e. on the Democratic Party and its Chairman Vlad Plahotniuc”, stated Ion Ceban.
