ALMOST 60% MOLDOVANS DOUBT THAT PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS WILL BE FREE AND FAIR – OPINION POLL

Experts of the American International Republican Institute (IRI) presented the results of a research “Opinion Poll: Moldovan Citizens”.

The research says that almost 60% of Moldovans are sure that the upcoming elections will be unfair and unfree. Only 8% of respondents believe in a free and fair election process, 24% just partially hope for this, while 11% found it difficult to answer.

“However, despite this, 59% say they will for sure participate in the voting, 28% - almost certainly will go voting and only 9% say they will hardly go to elections”, says the research results.

According to the poll, had the election taken place next Sunday, the results would be the following: the Party of Socialists (PSRM) – 30%, Democratic Party of Moldova (DP) – 11%, Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) – 11%, “Demnitate si Adevar” [DA, “Dignity and Justice”] Party – 10%, other parties would not cross the necessary threshold of 6%.

“Taking into account the opinion of those, who said they will for sure go voting, the results are the following: PSRM – 32%, DP – 12%, PAS – 12%, DA – 12%”, the research says.

According to the poll, choosing candidates, respondents want that the future deputies to engage first of all in resolving the corruption problem (41%), economy (22%) and infrastructure (9%), while the bank fraud scored only 6%.

“In single-member constituencies, 50% respondents are ready to vote for independent candidates and only 6% will be supporting representatives of a party or a bloc”, the research says.

The opinion poll was carried out among 1503 residents on September 11 through October 16. The pollsters are saying that error should not exceed ±2.5%.
