PRESIDENT DODON BELIEVES THAT SOCIALISTS MAY LET ACUM HAVE PREMIER’S POST BUT NOT PARLIAMENT SPEAKER’S

19 april, 2019

President Igor Dodon says the Party of Socialists can let the ACUM bloc have the prime ministerial post but not of the Parliament Speaker’s.

Dodon stressed on the national public television on Thursday night that Socialists will be further insisting on appointing PSRM Chairperson Zinaida Greceanii as Parliament Speaker because the Party has won the largest number of seats in the legislative assembly. He again expressed an utter surprise that ACUM, which has only a quarter of seats in the forum, is stubbornly railroading its leaders Maya Sandu and Andrei Nastase to the positions of both prime minister and parliament speaker, respectively.

“Hello friends, where have you sprung from, so clever? What if citizens have another opinion? Andrei Nastase shall not become Speaker, definitely. He should stop daydreaming about this. Perhaps he may become a prime minister, if Maya Sandu agrees to this – and only in case of a coalition with Socialists. If not – we will go for a snap election, all of us together”, said Igor Dodon.

He recommended the ACUM leaders to think hard in order to return to constructive negotiations after the approaching Easter Holidays, may be to visit a church and make a confession, and decide.

In his opinion, presently the probability of an early parliamentary election is very high, and in case of such a poll the Right parties will be losers.

“If the Parliament fails to appoint a government and to adopt at least one law by next June 21, then 30 days after that the President must appeal to the Constitutional Court for its consent for dissolution of the Parliament. This should mean that by late July the President is to sign a Decree on parliament dissolution, and to announce a snap election date”, said Dodon.
