MOLDOVA PRESIDENT AND U.S. AMBASSADOR SPEAK FOR STABILITY IN RM...

14 june, 2019

Both Moldova President Igor Dodon and the United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova, Dereck Hogan, regard it as necessary to preserve stability in Moldova, the head of state wrote on his Facebook page on Friday following his meeting with the American diplomat.

The interlocutors discussed topical questions of bilateral relations and "confirmed a mutual interest to the deepening of cooperation in all the fields presenting mutual interest".

Discussing the current political situation in the republic, Igor Dodon and Dereck Hogan voiced a common opinion on the need to preserve stability by all means. In this connection, the President emphasized that the June 16 march in support of the new legitimate country leadership will bear an exclusively peaceful character.

"I stressed also that the Presidential Administration has been constantly in touch with the new parliamentary majority composed of the Party of Socialists and the political bloc ACUM, and with the Government of Maya Sandu", wrote Dodon.

In his words, "By joint effort we will ensure a peaceful transfer of power for the good of the Moldova people, and will preserve mutually beneficial relations with Moldova's external partners".

...AFTER WHICH AMBASSADOR HOGAN VISITS DP OFFICE

Following his Friday's meeting with Moldova President Igor Dodon, U.S. Ambassador Derek Hogan went to the headquarters of the Democratic Party of Moldova, where a meeting of the DP National Council was held. Minutes after his arrival, photographs of the Ambassador's car, parked before the DP office, appeared in the social networks.

The party leadership convoked the DP Council meeting on Friday to discuss a plan of further actions. It is believed that the Democrats discussed the question of holding or not holding of a counter-manifestation on Sunday against the coalition-organized march in support of the new parliamentary majority and Maya Sandu Government.

Initially, Democrats were going to hold at 13 hrs a press briefing to cover the results of the DP Council meeting. However, the U.S. Ambassador came to the DP office shortly before that time. Democratic Party Deputy Chairman Vladimir Cebotari came out to the waiting press and said the briefing would begin at about 17.30 hrs.

As was already reported by Infotag, on Wednesday ex-Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, a DP Deputy Chairman, flew to the United States presumably to enlist American partners' support. Meanwhile, the DP leadership sent letters to all foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Moldova, in which its authors tried to convince the foreign diplomats that the Government of Prime Minister Pavel Filip is the only legitimate executive power in the republic.

The Democratic Party leaders wrote in the letter: "From aside, it might look as though Moldova has two governments. However, according to the Constitutional Court's decision, there is only one legitimate government in Chisinau - the one headed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip, which fulfills the Court's decisions. Besides this, on June 9 the Constitutional Court ruled to briefly suspend President Igor Dodon for his refusal to dissolve the Parliament within a law-stipulated timeframe, and Prime Minister Pavel Filip was appointed as Acting President, who set for September 6 the date of an early parliamentary election. The latest Constitutional Court rulings may not be ignored. According to them, the republic does have a legitimate government headed by Premier Pavel Filip, and a parliament that was dissolved, and a president who is close to his dismissal".
