PARLIAMENT DISCHARGES DISPUTE AGENCY DIRECTOR ANATOL ZAGORODNII

08 july, 2019

On Friday, the Moldovan parliamentary majority voted for dismissing Anatol Zagorodnii as Director of the Agency for Resolution of Disputes.

Dismissal initiative author MP Dumitru Alaiba of the PAS party stated that Zagorodnii had been appointed to this sensitive post without a law-stipulated professional contest, that he had no experience of work with such delicate matters, and fails to meet other necessary professional requirements.

Before becoming a Democratic Party parliamentarian in 2015, Zagorodnii was a Communist Party member. He was appointed to the Agency totally non-transparently, at the very end of his parliamentary mandate, when the Democratic Party was feverishly appointing its "reliable people" to a multitude of essential state posts.

The now opposition Democratic faction criticized that decision by the parliamentary majority, naming it a reprisal against the opposition.

"You may be taking any decisions now. The chief thing only is that they be in harmony with the law, and not proceeding from your political preferences", stated Democrat Sergiu Sirbu [a former Communist, too], who promised earlier to become "a real nightmare for the parliamentary majority".
