ACUM CANDIDATE WILL BECOME NEW CHISINAU MAYOR – MAIA SANDU

16 july, 2019

Prime Minister Maia Sandu is sure that it is a member of the ACUM bloc who will become a new Chisinau mayor.

“I am sure that a candidate from the ACUM will win the gubernatorial elections in Chisinau. Here we have our electorate and we will be fighting for the right to represent Chisinau citizens in the city Primaria for the next 4 years”, Sandu said to Radio Free Europe.

She avoided answering to the questions if it is leader of the “Demnitate si Adevar” Party, incumbent Deputy Premier, Minister of the Interior Andrei Nastase (who won the local election last year), who will be this candidate or it will be another person.

“We are discussing this question and once the decision is taken we will make it public. This will happen in the nearest time”, the premier said.

As for the rivalry with the Party of Socialists (PSRM) at elections in Chisinau and other localities, she said that the possible signing of a ‘non-aggression pact’ is being currently discussed.

“Of course we will be competing at the upcoming local elections. Despite this, we stand for a civilized campaign which is conducted in concrete directions, on actual problems, but not on the basis of geopolitical criteria with attacks against separate persons”, Sandu said.

She confirmed that also the signing of a new agreement is discussed, which would replenish the initial agreement between the ACUM and PSRM on de-oligarchization.

“It will include a more concrete and detailed plan of Government’s actions against what is reflected in the governance program. In this way, we will secure support from the side of all MPs, who voted for the current Government and its program, the support on concrete directions. We plan to include a number of provisions in this document, which confirm the adherence of all the sides to the process of Moldova’s European integration”, the Premier said.

According to her, the new agreement will have a provision to ban the MPs to migrate from one party into other, to run among the factions.

“We decided that if a situation occurs when the current majority becomes non-functional, we will decide to hold early elections. No matter what, we will not accept the games that were played in the previous Parliament”, Sandu stated.
