The Liberal Reformist Party (LRP) of Moldova will become the Romanian National Party (RNP). A corresponding decision was issued by the party congress on Sunday.

Deputy Chairmen are: leader of the National Unity Bloc Ion Leascenco, historian Ion Varta, public activist Anatol Ursu, President of “Dimitrie Cantemir” State University, ex-Deputy Speaker Valeriu Saharneanu.

The new party intends to promote privileged strategic partnership between Moldova and Romania.

It intends to participate in new parliamentary elections and common local elections on October 20 and promises to announce names of its candidates, including for the post of Chisinau mayor, within several days.

As Infotag has already reported, the LRP was founded on April 12, 2013 as a Council for Liberal Party reforming. It was made of 8 MPs, two ministers, five deputy ministers and some leaders of the LP territorial organizations, They accused leader of Liberals Mihai Ghimpu of authoritarianism, demanded to organize an extraordinary party congress and appointing the then Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca as new leader of LP. Over the last 6 years the LRP failed to become an influential political force in Moldova.
