18 september, 2019

The deadline for submission of documents for registration of candidates for the October 20 local elections is expiring on September 19, the Moldovan Central Election Commission reminded.

The Thursday will also be the last day when candidates may be nominated for 4 single-member constituencies (#17, 33, 48 and 50), where parliamentary by-elections will be held on October 20 as well.

Besides this, September 19 will be the last day for the activities of candidates’ initiative groups and for the raising of citizens’ signatures.

After that, district election boards will have 7 days at their disposal for considering submitted documents and for taking a decision on registering a candidate or on denial of registration.

On October 20, when Moldova will be holding its ordinary nation-wide local elections, 1969 polling stations will be opened in the country, including 307 in Chisinau. The republic will be electing 898 mayors and 11,580 local councilors – members of raion, city and village Councils [local legislatures].

The previous nation-wide ordinary local election was held in Moldova on June 14, 2015.
