PRESIDENT DODON CALLS GOVERNMENT TO DISREGARD ATTACKS AND WORK FOR CITIZENS’ GOOD

15 november, 2019

Moldova President Igor Dodon has called the just appointed new Government members to pay no attention to political attacks staged against them and to work for the benefit of people. He stated this during his meeting with Ion Chicu Cabinet members held on Friday morning.

Dodon wrote on his Facebook page afterwards that this is the first Government over last 20 years that has been formed without a parliamentary majority [in 2015, Moldova had a minority government of the Democratic Party headed Premier Chiril Gaburici, appointed with the Communist Party’s support], and the first Cabinet since 2001, which has received the record-breaking high number of parliamentarians’ support. “So now, there is no parliamentary majority yet, but there is a socio-economic platform”.

“On Thursday, I made public a Road Map and asked the ministers to study it and put forth their concrete proposals as soon as possible. There are several questions that need to be considered without a delay, and I suggested bringing them to the next week’s sitting of the Supreme Security Council. These questions are: the justice reform, preparation for heating season, natural gas supplying, citizens’ security, crime rate and other. The people are expecting concrete results, so the Government’s attention must be focused on the citizens”, stated the President.

Igor Dodon stressed that ministers must introduce into their work practices a regular communication with citizens – minimum once a week.

“I called the Cabinet to not pay attention to the political attacks made by those dismissed from their posts. The new ministers are politically independent. They are professionals and must prove in deeds that they are better than their predecessors. The Presidential Administration and the Parliament deputies who voted for the new Government will be rendering necessary assistance for their efficient work”, assured President Igor Dodon.

On Thursday, the head of state announced that the President, Parliament Speaker and Prime Minister will be holding weekly meetings on Mondays, which will be open inter alia to media representatives. The new Government announced the holding of such meeting scheduled for 8.00 am today, but half an hour before the set time the governmental press service cancelled the invitation for the press.
