PLAHOTNIUC MAY COME BACK HOME ONLY IN HANDCUFFS – PRESIDENT DODON

21 november, 2019

The former Moldovan Democratic Party leader, fugitive tycoon Vlad Plahotniuc may come back to Moldova only in handcuffs, President Igor Dodon stated on the Moldova-1 public television channel on Wednesday night, stressing that all the criminal litigations, initiated by the Prosecution Service against Plahotniuc last few months, must be brought to a logical end.

“I’ve met the incumbent Acting Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu only once, and I stand up for appointing a new and fully independent Prosecutor General as soon as possible. Not a single litigation on loud crimes in our country shall be closed down. I mean the one-billion-dollar bank fraud, illicit privatizations and other serious crimes. All investigations and all trials shall be brought to a logical end. Citizens are waiting for justice, and the government must justify the people’s expectations”, Igor Dodon said, stressing that all this has a direct relation to investigations with respect to fugitive oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc.

“There are criminal litigations initiated against him, and there is an official stance of the National Anti-Corruption Center. And there is an international warrant issued for his arrest. So he can return home only in handcuffs. There are no other variants. I believe this will happen sooner or later. I would like this to happen possibly sooner – in near weeks or months”, said the President.
