NEW MOLDOVAN POLITICAL FORCE COMING TO SCENE

09 december, 2019

The constituent congress of the Collective Action Party “Civilian Congress”, founded by a group of former Communist Party leadership representatives, was held in Chisinau on Sunday. The forum was attended by 4 hundred members of the party, of whom 93 had the status of a congress delegate. They unanimously voted for founding the new party.

The list of its organizers includes: Mark Tkachuk – a former chief ideologist of the Communist Party (MCP), a former Adviser to ex-president Vladimir Voronin and ex-Member of the Parliament; ex-MP Iurie Muntean – a former MCP Executive Secretary; former MPs Zurab Todua and Mihai Poleanschi.

Poleanschi, elected as Chairman of the Party’s Chisinau city organization, said that it has already more than 700 members, whose average age is 41 years, and “there are quite many well-educated youth and well-to-do people”.

In his words, it is necessary to urgently solve the depopulation problem in Moldova, particularly in cities.

“They say that Moldovan villages are dying out. But in Chisinau and other cities the people live as if in a ghetto, and their exodus has developed not even into a flight but into an evacuation. Chisinau has a zero natural population growth, and the city has long ago ceased to be an economic center. Municipal authorities change, but nobody cares about Chisinau citizens”, said Mihai Poleanschi.

In the opinion of Moldovan historian and political scientist Zurab Todua, corruption has won a total victory in Moldova.

“And we, citizens, are forced to exist is such conditions. In Moldova, thanks to the authorities, political outlooks have been substituted with political promises. But there is a possibility to correct this situation. For instance, it is possible to abolish, for a time, such institution as the Constitutional Court, which has compromised itself by interfering into the state power. It is necessary also to let citizens directly elect Constitutional Court Judges and the Prosecutor General”, presumes Zurab Todua.

Mark Tkachuk presented the party’s Action Plan for the first 5 years.

“Starting from today, we are depriving the existing parties of their solitude and deadly boredom. We all have got used to governmental strategies containing only speculations about development. One can have an impression that the population has a lot of time to waste. But we have no time! In 5 years or so, Moldova will inevitably suffer a demographic catastrophe when the number of workers will equalize with the number of pensioners. The Moldovan economy nowadays is actually the eating up of the remainder resources inherited from the Soviet epoch and the expectation of remittances coming from abroad. The Republic of Moldova’s political basis is the concentration of power in the hands of a few politicians. The country obviously needs a strategy of changes. Therefore, we are addressing to all non-indifferent citizens to discuss with us our project of changes in two months from now. And after such a nation-wide discussion, it is necessary to embark on a resolute implementation of the project”, stated Mark Tkachuk.

He said that the Party’s activities will be based on values such as “social justice, solidarity and humanism, scientific concept of the world, and critical analysis”.

The Civilian Congress’ Action Plan includes solving of the problems of environment protection, the youth, migration prevention, facilitation of the situation of socially vulnerable population groups etc.

The new organization’s Republican Committee has included 55 people, of whom 17 have formed an Executive Committee. It is noteworthy that the new Party will have no Chairperson. In it, party building issues will be on Iurie Muntean, cooperation with political parties and non-governmental organizations – on Zurab Todua, cooperation with local administrations – on Mikhail Burusciuk.

The forum has appointed also persons responsible for ideological, legal and culture questions, as well as responsible for regions, including Transnistria.
