ROMANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER STATES IN BRUSSELS THAT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO MOLDOVA SHOULD BE PROVIDED DEPENDING ON REFORMS

11 december, 2019

Romania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu stated during a sitting of the European Council in Brussels that financial assistance to Moldova should be provided depending on how successfully the republic implements reforms. In his words, Romania fully supports the conditions put forward by the European Union for rendering further assistance for Moldova.

"The assistance should be based on the following principles: (1) on a thorough and strict monitoring of Chisinau's actions to meet its commitments to relations with the European Union, including the EU-Moldova Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement [DCFTA]; (2) a strict conditioning of the EU financial assistance and political support with the achievement of a real progress in reform implementation and in conformity with the commitments demonstrated by concrete reform results, not by statements made by the Government of Moldova; (3) orientation of the support with a priority put on projects presenting a direct interest for Moldova citizens; (4) to support the unity of actions and coordinate positions at the EU level", said Bogdan Aurescu.

He reminded that all these conditions were spoken out by him in his meeting with Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Aurel Ciocoi that took place on the sidelines of the OSCE Ministerial Council Summit held in Bratislava last week.
