SOCIALISTS PROPOSE TO ADOPT DECLARATION ON WEIGHTED EXTERNAL POLICY IN CITIZENS' INTERESTS

19 february, 2020

The Party of Socialists (PSRM) has proposed to adopt in parliament a Declaration called "On a Weighted External Policy in Citizens' Interests". In the draft of the document, the Socialists proposed all political parties to promote the overcoming of the current split in the Moldovan society along geopolitical lines.

"For nearly 3 decades now, the country has been constantly split between differing geopolitical visions. Quite often, politicians speculated on the external-political vector for electoral interests and to the detriment of citizens' interests. Struggle and division by geopolitical criteria often told on the domestic political climate as well, and on social peace in the republic, slowing down its development", said the draft Declaration.

Its authors reminded that in the summer of 2019, the then-parliamentary majority decided to put an end to that split, which was useful for each citizen and united the population around one big goal - to live in peace and harmony, to efficiently cooperate with all international partners in the interests of the republic's development and modernization.

"Time has come for all parties to recognize the political mistakes of the past that led to country division according to wrong political criteria. Time has come when all politicians, no matter with right or left convictions, must unite efforts to ensure a weighted external policy for Moldova, with which Moldova citizens will feel protected at home and abroad", said the draft Declaration.

The Party of Socialists has called on all parliamentary factions to support the draft Declaration. The Socialists believe that Moldova's development vector must be aimed at the building of a democratic state sharing European values, in which citizens are to feel respect and security.

"Modern and European values must become a national strategic project to be based on the interests of each citizen and not on parties' political interests. At the same time, Moldova's European belonging should not mean an imposition of false geopolitical obstacles, which would limit international cooperation by the efforts of a narrow circle of partners proceeding from the instant interests of some parties", said the draft Declaration.

It was reported earlier that ACUM and DPM representatives were discussing the possibility to adopt another Declaration in the Parliament - on Moldova's commitment to the European integration course. The ACUM constituent parties were insisting that the document must necessarily have a provision that "integration into the structures of the Eurasian Economic Union is unacceptable for Moldova". So, now the Democratic Party will have to decide which of the two drafts it will support.
