EU DELEGATION HEAD REGRETS THAT EU ASSISTANCE IS PRESENTED IN NEGATIVE LIGHT IN MOLDOVA

14 april, 2020

Ambassador Peter Michalko, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova said on local television that he regrets about the statements, which portray the European Union help to Moldova in negative ways.

Last week, President Igor Dodon stated that only China, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey and the USA really helped Moldova.

“I heard very nice, promising statements from the side of the EU. I hope the EU will allocate the promised macro-financial assistance, which is being talked about for already two years. The Government fulfilled all the conditions, adopting necessary laws, thus this assistance would be great”, the president stated back then.

Asked to comment on these statements, Michalko expressed regret that these were made a way that it cast a negative light on the EU’s sincere help to Moldova.

“It should be clear that we do not need special projects for this help. We were informed what the country needs for combating the coronavirus. All this will be bought by the EU and directed to Moldova”, Michalko said.

He stressed that this assistance will no way affect the help in implementing the projects, which were announced earlier.

“The help in the process of implementing reforms, outlined in the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, will be continued after the crisis as well”, Michalko stressed.

As Infotag has already reported, the EU announced about the allocation of 840 million euros to Eastern Partnership countries. 140 million of these will be allocated for urgent needs, while 700 million euros – to overcoming the consequences of the crisis, caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
