CHISINAU COURT ISSUES WARRANT FOR PLAHOTNIUC’S ARREST

22 may, 2020

On Friday morning, the Chisinau Court (first-instance) has issued a warrant for a 30-day arrest of oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, ex-chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova, who fled from the Moldovan justice in June 2019. The Court has thus met the inquiry filed on May 18 by the Moldovan Prosecution Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases.

Office’s Acting Head Ion Caracuian said in the Court that the prosecutors will now undertake legal actions for arrest of Plahotniuc and for his extradition to Moldova.
As was already reported by Infotag, the Office put forward accusations against the said defendant. There are 3 items of the accusation: fraud, money laundering and the organization and guidance of a criminal group.

Earlier this month, Prosecutor General Alexander Stoianoglo became the first official in Moldova to have announced loudly in public the name of the chief beneficiary of the one-billion-dollar bank fraud – Vladimir Plahotniuc.
