MOLDO-LITHUANIAN POLITICAL CONSULTATIONS HELD ONLINE

A new round of Moldo-Lithuanian foreign ministerial political consultations was held in the format of a videoconference on Tuesday. It was co-chaired by State Secretary of the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Dumitru Socolan and Lithuania's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dalius Cekuolis.

The parties highly assessed the advanced level of bilateral cooperation and the positive dynamic of their political dialog, having highlighted the need for determining ways to resumption and further development of profiled cooperation, trade and economic relations.

They discussed also issues related to the Transnistrian problem, to the regional and international situation, including their interaction and reciprocal backing within international organizations.

The interlocutors exchanged opinions about the latest developments in Moldova's dialog with the European Union, in particular the progress of reforms in compliance with international commitments assumed. They highlighted the importance of the support by Lithuania of Moldova's European path, including through rendering political backing and financial assistance.

Dumitru Socolan thanked the Government and the people of Lithuania for their assistance rendered in many projects realized in Moldova, and expressed gratitude for the recent delivery from Lithuania of a consignment of protective equipment to help the Moldovan health system combat COVID-19.

The parties agreed to continue their bilateral negotiations, including on the platform of the Moldova-Lithuania Commission for European Integration, and to hold a new round of the ministerial political consultations in 2021.
