MOLDOVAN AUTHORITIES WILL BE RENDERING ASSISTANCE TO FOREIGN OBSERVERS AT NOVEMBER ELECTIONS – FOREIGN MINISTER

The Moldovan authorities are firmly intending to hold the November 1 presidential election in strict accordance with international standards, and are ready to render all necessary assistance to observers to work at the polls, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Oleg Tulea stated during his Tuesday’s meeting with Corien Jonker, Head of the ODIHR/OSCE Election Observation Mission.

The parties discussed the organization of the Moldovan presidential elections in foreign countries proceeding from the republic’s Election Code, and spoke about the main directions of related activities by the Moldovan Foreign Ministry and by the country’s diplomatic missions and consular representations abroad.

Oleg Tulea said the Ministry is completing its paper work pertaining to the opening of polling areas abroad. And a final decision on the issue will be taken by the Central Election Commission at its public meeting on September 26.

Missions of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) have observed various elections in Moldova already 14 times, delegating international experts to this republic for short and long periods. Their post-election conclusions and recommendations found reflection in reports published on the Office’s website.
