DEFENSE MINISTER ANATOLIE NOSATII: TALKS ABOUT MOLDOVA'S ACCESSION TO NATO ARE PART OF HYBRID WAR

25 january, 2023

"Talks in Moldovan society about Moldova's accession to NATO are part of a hybrid war," Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii believes. According to INFOTAG news agency, speaking on a TV channel on Tuesday evening, the minister stated that Moldova is not ready to join NATO.

According to him, serious discussions are now underway as to whether Moldova can ensure its own security or whether it should join a major alliance.

In this context, the defense minister stressed that giving up the status of neutrality, must coincide with the people's desire to be part of the military bloc or not.

At the same time, the defense minister made it clear that it is the politicians' prerogative to discuss the revision of the status of neutrality of Moldova, and the possible decision to join the military alliance should be taken after consultations with the citizens.

However, the official admitted that the status of neutrality left Moldova alone with an irrelevant defense system.

"The defense sector is forgotten, investments are not made, so we cannot cope with the challenges... The revision of the status of neutrality should be made by politicians, taking into account the opinion of citizens. This topic should be the subject of discussion, analysis, it is a democratic process," Nosatii considers.

In addition, the minister noted that President Maia Sandu, when she spoke about Moldova's security, did not mean NATO specifically, but rather the alliance.

"Alliances are different, there are local, regional ones. All those who want to manipulate on this topic call out for NATO," the minister outlined, noting that "NATO is a strong military-political alliance, but the mere desire to become a member is not enough."
