AMERICAN AMBASSADOR: U.S. WILL CONTRIBUTE TO STRENGTHENING OF MOLDOVA'S INDEPENDENCE AND SUSTAINABILITY

The United States Ambassador to Chisinau, Kent Logsdon, has assured that his country will further contribute to strengthening Moldova's independence and sustainability. He said this on Thursday during a forum on reintegration.

"As it doesn't sound strange, in the two years since the beginning of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, Moldova has become more independent and sustainable. I mean, among other things, energy independence. It is known that energy is one of Russia's main weapons. And for 30 years Moldova remained dependent on Russian gas and energy resources. Today, we see that this dependence is no more, Moldova can buy gas on the free market, including in the USA," the diplomat said.

He said that since February 2022, the USA has provided Moldova with 770 million dollars in assistance aimed at various projects to strengthen the country's resilience and overcome the challenges it faces.

"We should not forget that Russia's goal is to splinter the country and maintain a hotbed of tension. That is why Russian troops still remain in Moldova against the will of its government, which must be withdrawn. (...). The United States will help Moldova to turn it into a prosperous and stable country," Kent Logsdon emphasized.
