PAS PARTY SUPPORTS INITIATIVE OF SIGNING PACT "FOR EUROPE" - PARTY LEADER IGOR GROSU

18 april, 2024

The Chairman of the Parliament and leader of the ruling PAS party, Igor Grosu, said that the formation supports the initiative to sign the Pact "For Europe" proposed by the four parties of the “Together” (Impreuna) bloc. He said this on Jurnal TV channel on Wednesday evening.

"We have received this document. I will propose to support the Pact. Perhaps we will propose some additions, but in general we support this initiative. We support the idea - to unite parties and civil society around European integration. We need to walk together on this path," Grosu said.

He stressed that this is also important in the context of the October 20 constitutional referendum on European integration.

"I am confident that the referendum will be successful. Those who sincerely believe in European integration will vote in favor," he said.

Answering a question about Russia's interference in the election and referendum process, the speaker said that it was already happening.

"It's not going to be easy, we know that. All elections have been difficult after 2019. It will be even more difficult now. We can't relax. The Kremlin is mutating and adapting its tactics. Moscow is using rather hatchet technologies; they assume that what works in Russia must work in other post-Soviet states as well. This is not quite true," Grosu believes.

He stressed that "now the Kremlin is betting on organized crime groups."

"Their bet is on criminal groups. They are already openly supporting the bandits, they are not hiding. But this also makes it easier for us: everyone sees that there is a 'party of war' and a 'party of peace'. We will make sure that there will be peace in Moldova and the road to Europe will be continued, as it is a space of peace and security," Grosu concluded.
