DEPUTIES OF THE BANNED “ŞOR” PARTY CHALLENGE THE RESULTS OF THE 2023 LOCAL ELECTIONS

18 april, 2024

Deputies of the parliament from the banned “Şor” party challenged on Thursday the results of the 2023 local elections. As reported by INFOTAG, Deputy Marina Tauber wrote on social media that “a statement has been filed to CEC to declare nelegitime the acts confirming the election results, declare them invalid, and set a date for repeat local elections.”

The MP reminded that “the Constitutional Court (CC) declared unconstitutional the provisions of the Election Code that imposed restrictions on hundreds of citizens - members of the Şor party to run in the elections. The CC ruled that the parliament violated the Constitution by adopting such restrictions. This was confirmed by the Venice Commission and OSCE observers.”

The deputy believes that the legitimacy of the electoral process has been totally discredited.

“Thus, only new elections involving all candidates will correct the serious mistake made by the political group temporarily governing Moldova. We do not have great hopes for CEC, which is politically subservient to PAS. But we will continue the fight in all national and international courts,” Tauber concluded.
