MOLDOVA LAUNCHES ANTI DRINKING CAMPAIGN

The Moldovan Ministry of Health together with the World Health Organization (WHO) launched anti drinking campaign on Wednesday.

At the press conference, the Minister of Health Andrei Usatii said that the goal of this campaign is to reduce alcohol consumption.

According to him the campaign is designed for drivers, pregnant women, adolescents under 18-year-old and lonely people.

“The first step toward the fight against alcoholism was the adoption of the law banning the alcohol sale from 22 p.m. till 8 a.m. for minors”, said the Minister.

The representative of WHO in Moldova Jarno Habicht noted that “despite the measures taken, there is still work to do”.

According to the Ministry of Health, in 2012, from the excessive consumption of alcohol over 176 deaths per 100,000 populations were registered, from cirrhosis and liver about 82 deaths. The highest level of alcohol consumption remains in Europe – 18 litres per person from 15-years-old.
