JUDGES, DEPUTIES, DIPLOMATS ALSO PAY FINES FOR TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS

16 octomber, 2014

Fines for traffic violations are paid in Moldova both by ordinary drivers, and by deputies, judges and diplomats, said Dan Chirita, Head of the Center for road traffic video surveillance in the General Police Inspectorate, at the Thursday press conference.

Summarizing the first results of the center’s activity, he said that “video monitoring system makes no difference to anyone: if one violated the law – one should answer according to the law”.

Chirita said that in general, even the MPs usually pay without delay, despite the formal necessity to address to court for lifting their immunity to recover the fine.

“We have no special statistics for detaining officials. I can say that since early summer, around 30 policemen have been brought to justice. In total, around 200 people can be classified as civil servants-offenders”, said he.

Chirita cited the example of the USA Embassy to Moldova, the Chief of Security of which has recently addressed to the center with a requirement to be provided with information about all the violations, committed by cars with diplomatic plates.

“Here we see an example of a high responsibility for behavior on the road”, said he.

According to him, since June 20, the video surveillance systems started working in ordinary regime.

“As of today, 89.2 thousand violations of various kinds have been identified and fines worth 20 million lei have been imposed”, said Chirita, adding that the main goal of the road traffic video monitoring is to make sure that all drivers understand the inevitability of punishment for violation.
