BUSINESSMAN ILAN SHOR BECOMES FREER THAN UNDER HOUSE ARREST

25 may, 2015

The chief figure of the case on the siphoning off billions of lei from three Moldovan banks, business tycoon Ilan Shor, who is running as candidate for mayor of Orhei town, will now have another, milder measure of restraint: he will now be just under judicial review, which is essentially better that to be under a house arrest, as he could come to realize since last May 6.

Shor electoral headquarters chief Igor Grigoriev said to Infotag that the Sectorul Buiucani Court of Chisinau decided so on May 22 on the request of Shor’s lawyers, “so already on Saturday Ilan Shor will go to Orhei to begin his full-fledged election campaign at last”.

As already reported by Infotag, Ilan Shor was placed under a house arrest following a series of searches in his and his partners’ offices carried out in the framework of the case on money withdrawal from three Moldovan banks. Shor is suspected of fraud. However, this status permits a person to run elections, which he exactly did – got registered as a candidate for mayor of Orhei.

Infotag’s dossier: Ilan Shor, 28, is the head and owner of the Dufremol [duty-free Moldova] company having a network of specialized shops across the republic. He owns also a number of other companies inherited from his father who passed away a few years ago. Ilan Shor’s name is associated with the disputable concession of the Chisinau International Airport in 2014, as well as with the BEM, Banca Sociala and Unibank that were placed under special administration by the National Bank of Moldova at the end of 2014. Ilan Shor is married to prominent Russian singer Jasmine [Sarah Manahimova-Semenduyeva] residing in Moscow. However, the Russian Government has prohibited Shor to enter the Russian territory since the end of January, 2015.
