​CONSUMERS WILL BE PERMITTED TO CHOOSE ELECTRICITY SUPPLIER – MoE BILL

Moldovan households, having valid contracts with electricity supplying companies, will be permitted to change suppliers if they wish. Such is one of the several amendments being proposed by the Ministry of Economy to the Law on Electric Energy.

Presenting the bill at the Government meeting on Wednesday, the Deputy Premier, Minister of Economy Stephane Christophe Bride said that consumers will be free to choose an energy supplier. Such change will be possible only if the consumer has met all his financial commitments stipulated in the contract with the old supplier.

According to the bill, a change of supplier will not require any payment to be made to incumbent or would-be potential operator. The change is to take maximum 20 days since application submission.

The bill approved by the Government today will now be sent to the Parliament for consideration.
