COURT HEARS FIRST WITNESSES FOR THE DEFENSE ON FILAT CASE

30 may, 2016

On Friday, the Sectorul Buiucani Court of Chisinau interrogated first witnesses for the defense on the case of the Liberal Democratic Party Chairman, former Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat. Those were MP Chiril Lucinschi (LDPM), former Secretary General of Moldovan Government Eduard Banariuc and Victor Cojocaru, former Director General of Franzeluta – the country’s largest producer of bread and related products.

Chiril Lucinschi stated to journalists afterwards that he gave evidence about his presence at the Prime Minister Filat’s birthday party in 2013, but has no idea which presents Filat accepted then.

Ex-Director of Franzeluta said that the huge enterprise used to work with more than 700 companies then and with 6 banks, including Banca de Economii [savings bank], “but we did not take credits from it. All our business relations were absolutely lawful”.

Infotag’s dossier: In previous weeks, the Court heard witnesses for the prosecution. Filat’s lawyers have presented their list of 30 witnesses, but the Court approved only 14. At the first hearing of witnesses, none of the witnesses for the defense showed up. The hearings will be continued next week.
