ABSOLUTE MAJORITY OF MOLDOVANS DISCONTENTED WITH SITUATION, SAY MOLDOVA HAS CHOSEN WRONG ROAD – POLL

29 september, 2016

An absolute majority of Moldova citizens are dissatisfied with situation in the country and firmly believe that Moldova has chosen a wrong development direction. Such is one of the findings of the research called “The Quality of Country Governance through the Prism of State-Provided Services” carried out by the CBS-AXA Center for Sociological Researches and Marketing by the order of “Viitorul” [“Future”] Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS) on September 14 through 25.

“In response to the traditional question about the country’s development direction, 82% respondents stated that the republic is moving in a wrong direction. This is the lowest point of development optimism Moldova has been standing on for two years now. There is no improvement, and there is no room for deterioration because we seem to have reached already the worst. Analogous sad figures are remaining concerning living standards and general situation in the national economy”, said Deputy Director Vasily Cantarji.

Among the most serious problems faced by the nation the respondents fingered at poverty (58%), corruption (46.1%), high prices (45.6%), unemployment (44.5%) and children’s future (43.7%).

Cantarji emphasized that corruption is alarming Moldova citizens more and more: this indicator has been steadily going up lately.
