Around 30 villages in six raions of the country were still de-energized as of Tuesday morning. The Cahul raion suffered most (seven localities), as well as Gagauzia (6), Leova (5), Taraclia, Causeni and Anenii Noi (3 localities each), Cantemir (2 villages).

29 teams of Gas Natural Fenosa are working at liquidating the consequences of last week heavy snowfalls.

Rescuers, carabineers and the military conducted 20 sorties to clean streets in raions, in Chisinau – 15.

In Comrat, the melting snow flooded basements in around 600 houses, which creates the threat of their collapsing. Rescuers are pumping out the water from basements. In next 24 hrs, around 900 rescuers and military will continue liquidating the consequences of the cataclysm with the help of 156 items of special machinery.

Heavy snowfalls and strong wind that stroke Chisinau on April 20-21 caused damage worth around 70 million lei (approximately US$3.5 million), said Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca this past weekend.

“The final figures are not known yet. The cleaning and liquidation of the nature disaster continue. We will need up to a year to liquidate all the consequences”, Chirtoaca said.

According to him, more than 10 thousand of trees fell in Chisinau, as a result of which 250 cars were damaged in Chisinau. Also, 125 electric poles fell, more than 1500 cases of cable breaking were registered. In Chisinau arboretum, around 80% of trees were affected. Also, more than 3 thousand square meters of roofs were damaged; nine schools and kindergartens are in disrepair.

The general damage in the republic, including in agriculture, has not been estimated yet. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry reported that severe damage was caused to rapeseed plantations and orchards of early fruit – cherry and sweet cherry. The harvest of peaches and apricots died almost completely.
