GAGAUZIA AUTHORITIES TO ALLOCATE 20 THOUSAND LEI FOR VULCANESTI CITIZENS, AFFECTED BY FLOOD

The Gagauzia Executive Committee will allocate 200 thousand lei from its reserve fund for 70 families, which were affected by flood in Vulcanesti, said Deputy autonomy Bashkan [governor] Vadim Ceban at the operative meeting of the regional commission on liquidating consequences of natural disasters and extraordinary situations.

He said that at the same time, a sponsor bank account for collecting funds for those affected will be opened.

According to Vulcanesti local mayor Victor Petrioglo, the September 22 heavy rains led to catastrophic damage of houses, road infrastructure and green plantations in the locality.

“In some households, water wells were destroyed, basements were flooded, vegetable gardens were simply wiped out. One house is impossible to be rebuilt at all. It is planned to allocate at least 170 thousand lei to its owners. The rest of families will receive 3 to 10 thousand lei”, he said.

According to preliminary data, the damage citizens suffered is assessed at 368 thousand lei. The damage to road infrastructure reached 1 million lei.

Autonomy administration will not be able to handle all the rehabilitation works and hopes for help from central authorities.
