EXHIBITION ABOUT LITHUANIANS' EXISTENCE IN GULAG CAMPS TO BE OPENED IN CHISINAU

A traveling exhibition called "Under a foreign sky: Lithuania residents in Soviet camps and exiles in 1940-1958" will open in the National History Museum of Moldova on October 17.

The Embassy of Lithuania to Moldova says that the exhibition was prepared in 2011 by the Lithuanian Museum of Genocide Victims, "which carries out researches and collects historic documents and materials reflecting the forms and methods of the genocide used against Lithuania residents during the Soviet occupation years".

Olga Babenko of the Lithuanian Embassy says the exhibition is aimed to immortalize the memory of Soviet genocide victims and freedom strugglers.

The exhibition has been organized by the National History Museum in collaboration with the Embassy of Lithuania in Chisinau within the framework of the program called "Restoration of the memory and historic research on the victims of the totalitarian communist regime in the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic in 1940-1941 and in 1944-1953, said Babenko.
