ENDOCRINOLOGY DEPARTMENT OPENED IN CHISINAU WITH ROMANIA'S SUPPORT

Endocrinology department has been opened in the National Mother and Child Center in Chisinau with the assistance of the Romania authorities.

Institute representative Steluta Andreeva reported that the repairs took about 2.6 million lei, out of 1 million euros allocated by the Romania Government for the institute repair and modernization in 2014.

"The main thing was to repair the obstetric, perinatal screening center, intensive care unit, modernization of patients' reception and repair of endocrinology, allergology and cardiology departments", she said.

Later on, the Romanian authorities agreed to provide the institute another 1.5 million euros for renovation and purchase of furniture for several departments and for the National Scientific Center of Pediatric Surgery.

Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Daniel Ionita said at the opening ceremony that the money for the repairs was properly used.

"We want all children of the country to have European conditions. That is why will continue to work and consistently follow developments of the projects, which we committed to implement. I am glad that all these projects will benefit the citizens of the Republic of Moldova", said the diplomat.

"This is the only department, where children with endocrine disorders can be treated. Now, it has very good conditions for treatment and care. We will continue to modernize hospitals and we hope that foreign partners will support us", said Minister of Health Stela Grigoras.

Infotag's dossier: The endocrinology department has been functioning since 1985. Every year, about 700 children are treated in the department from thyroid disease, obesity, growth problems and developmental disorders in puberty.
