VICTOR MICU RE-ELECTED AS SCM CHAIRMAN

23 january, 2018

All the 11 members of Superior Council of Magistrates voted on Tuesday for re-electing the previous Chairman Victor Micu for the second mandate.

According to the source in the SCM chancellery, there was no other candidate except Micu for this post. [In December 2016, Superior Court of Justice Chairman Mihai Poalelungi was elected on a similar no-alternative scheme, which caused civil activists’ protests]

Micu said that the appointment is an honor for him and promised that he will act responsibly on this post and will do his best to consolidate the judge community in order that it to become truly independent.

Micu is working in the justice system since 1998, starting his activity as rank and file judge in the Sectorul Riscani of Chisinau. In 2010 he was appointed as acting chairman of Riscani Court. In 2014 he became member, while after that, head of the SCM.

Micu’s revenues in 2017 (according to his statement on income and property) came from two sources – SCM salary: 263 thousand lei (22 thousand lei per month or up to US$1294) and honorariums from teaching activities. In five universities he got slightly less than 57 thousand lei. Micu owns five land plots in Drochia raion. He has an apartment (with an area of 109 square meters) in Chisinau with cadastre cost of 729 thousand lei and a house in Chisinau (120 square meters), its cadastre cost was not mentioned. Micu’s parents-in-law are co-owners of the immoveable property.
