Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici said that the building of a multifunctional cultural and sport arena, initiated by the ruling Democratic Party, is a strategic priority for Moldova.

The first sitting of a special working group, formed for implementing the project, was held on Wednesday in Chisinau. The group is made of Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc, Finance Minister Octavian Armasu, Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Liviu Volconovici, as well as representatives of other responsible agencies.

In the nearest 10 days, the group has to develop agenda of object building and creation of a public-private partnership, while until April 1 they have to present draft normative acts necessary for project implementation.

Gaburici presented the concept of “Chisinau arena”, saying that its building will bring to Moldova a whole number of advantages.

“According to the preliminary feasibility study of the project, development by the Education Ministry, the arena will have 3-5 thousand seats, 800-1200 parking lots and can be used for holding various sport events, conferences, exhibitions or concerts. Besides, the arena will have an Olympic basin, tennis lawns, SPA and fitness rooms”, he said.

According to the group chairman, an open international contest will be conducted for selecting a private partner.

The arena will be located in Chisinau suburban community Stauceni, on the land that belongs to the Exemplary Center of Viticulture and Winemaking. It is supposed that it will be located on an area of 10 ha.

As Infotag has already reported, the idea of building a multifunctional cultural and sport arena in Chisinau was presented by DP Deputy Chairman, Speaker of the Parliament Andrian Candu on Tuesday. He said that the cost of the project will reach 30-50 million euros, including the state share of 100 million lei (4.8 million euros), which are provided in the 2018 State Budget.

Explaining the need of building such a large-scale complex, Candu said: What if Moldova will have to host the Eurovision Song Contest? This is impossible to be done without such an arena.
