26 april, 2018

The Republic of Moldova is on a list of 10 countries receiving a negative coverage by Russian television channels, as per the rating prepared by the Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

According to the research findings just presented in Kiev, nearly 87% news and other information cast by main Russian television companies have a negative content.

According to the Ukrainian researchers, most of European countries are presented by Russian TV channels as “the embodiments of evil”, except Switzerland, Montenegro and Belarus. Upon the whole, the research has showed that “television in Russia is the most powerful instrument of realization of the government’s agenda”.

The research has shown that the number of negative news grew by 87% in a period between July 2014 and December 2017. The main topics of negative news, as the Ukrainian researchers have formulated them, are: “the horrors of the everyday live in the West”, “decay in Europe”, as well as protests, the refugee crisis, and sanctions against Russia.

Romania is often mentioned in connection with Moldova, and it is criticized by the Russian television even stronger than Moldova. Romania is ranking the third after Ireland and Spain, and the share of negative information about Romania constitutes 93%, the Ukrainian Center wrote.

The research was undertaken to learn how the main Russian television channels, namely Russia-1, the First Channel and NTV, were covering the life in European countries in July 2014 through December 2017 after “annexation of the Crimea” and the start of a war in eastern Ukraine.
