ONE MORE VICTIM OF GAS EXPLOSION DIES IN HOSPITAL

The woman, in whose apartment a gas cylinder exploded on October 6, died in hospital on Tuesday evening.

The apartment owner, aged 32, was pulled from the rubble soon after the explosion. She was hospitalized with numerous traumas, including burns of 40% of the body and 10-15% of upper respiratory tract.

Thus, the number of the dead as a result of the explosion in the Riscani sector of Chisinau grew to 5 people. The reason of explosion was gas leakage from a gas cylinder, which was illegally kept in the apartment.

Last week, the removal of the rubble after the complete or partial collapse of apartments at the 13th-18th stores of the 21-storey building was finished. After expertise, the Chisinau authorities decided to rehabilitate the section, made of 80 apartments. The repairs start on Wednesday. The constructors have to repair the passenger elevator, replace the cargo elevator, strengthen the walls, again install ceilings in the destroyed apartments, as well as to rehabilitate the electricity, water and heating supply. The Chisinau budges allocated 10 million lei for repairing the affected building.

According to preliminary data, residents of most of apartments, except those which were completely destroyed, can return to their houses within several months. Currently, the admission to the building is prohibited, apartment owners can come in only under the police supervision. The building is round-the-clock guarded by carabineers.
