YOUNG PATRIOTS OF MOLDOVA CRITICIZE SOME CANDIDATES FOR ADHERENCE TO UNIONISM

01 february, 2019

Activists of the youth patriotic movement “Urmaşii lui Ştefan” [“Stefan Successors”] criticized a number of parliamentary candidates for obvious adherence to unionism [the idea of Unire – Moldova’s unification with Romania].

At the Friday’s press conference, movement Chairman Dumitru Roibu reminded that the organization was created three years ago and is made of young Moldovans who respect the history of independent and sovereign Moldova.

“The election campaign in Moldova is in its midst, the activity of candidates for the Parliament has intensified all across the country. They are united by the same call: the promise of “prosperity for everything and everyone” in our land”, he said criticizing some candidates, in particular, ex-Minister of Education, Co-Chairperson of the ACUM bloc Maia Sandu.

Roibu reminded the closing of educational institutions and called Maia Sandu “a rabid Unionist, who stands for liquidation of Moldova”.

The head of the youth organization reminded about the ugly role of Deputy Premier for European Integration Iurie Leanca in the country leadership.

“Leanca was head of the Government in the moment when a billion was stolen from country’s banks. He gave his consent to covering this financial hole by funds, which were later transformed into state debt, and which we, as taxpayers, are forced to return now”, the activist said.

He also said that incumbent Premier Pavel Filip is also an open Unionist.

“How can we talk about Filip as an adherent to the Moldovan statehood if he recently recognized he is a Romanian? Does he have the right to be head of the executive power in a sovereign Moldova with such views?”, Roibu wondered.

He reminded that one more rabid Unionist – ex-mayor Dorin Chirtoaca – also wants to come to the Parliament.

“This personage has become famous for several deeds. I recall he was bringing the “soil of Bessarabia” in a pot to the then President of Romania Traian Basescu. Chirtoaca had already governed the capital city for 10 years and God forbid the country to fall into his hands also. Besides, how can a person, who is investigated within a criminal case, become a deputy?”, Roibu wondered.

Infotag’s dossier: Born presumably in 1429, Gospodar Stefan cel Mare ruled Moldova from 1457 to 1504. In those years, the Greater Moldova included a part of modern Romania territory and parts of modern Ukraine’s Odessa oblast [region] and Chernovtsy oblast. During the years of his rule, Stefan cel Mare conducted 36 major battles against the Ottoman Empire, winning 34 of them. He is renowned and worshipped for his activities aimed at defending Moldova’s territorial integrity, at its multifaceted development, and at protection of the Orthodox faith by building 44 churches and monasteries in Moldova, Wallachia, Transylvania and on the Holy Mt. Athos in Greece.
