PRESIDENT DODON AWARDS TROLLEYBUS DRIVER FOR STOICISM AND PROFESSIONALISM

03 octomber, 2019

On Wednesday, Moldova President Igor Dodon decreed to decorate Chisinau trolleybus driver Vasile Secrieru with Meritul Civic medal for the self-restraint, courage and high professionalism the man demonstrated during last Monday’s awful traffic accident. The head of state met with Vasile and conversed with him today.

Dodon wrote on his Facebook page afterwards that according to the information available with the President, Vasile Secriuru, despite the injuries he received in the accident, managed to drive his trolleybus away from the big group of waiting unsuspecting passengers, who were standing on the public transport stop, and he thus permitted to avoid many more human victims. Himself Vasile is on a sickness leave now, treating his injuries and recovering from the stress.

President Dodon expressed condolences to the family of one man who had died in the accident, and to about 30 people who were injured.

The head of state wrote in the Facebook: “The Government and Ministry of the Interior must urgently work out a plan of measures to raise the safety of our automobile traffic. What is developing on our roads presently is demonstrating an extremely alarming situation. If it is necessary to amend relevant legislation, I am ready to support such changes. Recently, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a law permitting to confiscate private motor vehicles for frequent traffic violations and accidents. I suggest that our parliamentarians and the Government scrutinize this experience”, wrote Igor Dodon.
