SCP WILL HOLD INTERVIEWS WITH FINALISTS FOR PROSECUTOR GENERAL NEXT WEEK

20 november, 2019

The Superior Council of Prosecutors has scheduled for November 28 its interviews with candidates for Prosecutor General, SCP Chairperson Angela Motuzoc announced to the press on Wednesday following a Council sitting held behind closed doors.

She said that this stage of the professional contest will be open to all of the four candidates – finalists included into the so-called “short list”.

“These are Vladislav Gribincea, Alexander Stoianoglo, Veaceslav Soltan and Oleg Crismaru. By November 28, we expect documents on all of them to come from the National Anti-Corruption Center, the Information and Security Service, the National Integrity Organ, and from a Ministry of Health commission”, said Motuzoc.

Minister of Justice Fadei Nagacevschi said to journalists after the SCP sitting that there are no court decisions that would cancel the preliminary selection made by the MoJ expert commission. And in such circumstances, the Superior Council of Prosecutors has no reasons for stopping further selection of candidates.

The Minister refrained from commenting on the speculations concerning “a convenient and obedient Prosecutor General” that appeared in some mass media following certain politicians’ statements. Nagacevschi stressed that only the Superior Council of Prosecutors is eligible to determine the most suitable candidacy for the Prosecutor General.

As was already reported by Infotag, the annulment of the results of the contest for Prosecutor General was used as the pretext for dismissing the Maia Sandu Government last week.

According to the contest results, which will be sent to the SCP next Monday, the following persons have been selected as candidates for the Prosecutor General’s post: former Deputy Prosecutor General and ex-parliamentarian Alexander Stoianoglo; incumbent prosecutors Veaceslav Soltan and Oleg Crismaru, and Director of the Center for Legal Resources Vladislav Gribincea, a lawyer.

Initially, documents for participation in the contest were submitted by 20 applicants, of whom 16 were admitted to interviews. However, already after that stage of the contest, Prime Minister Maia Sandu expressed discontent about the selection results, and then-Minister of Justice announced invalidation of the contest. In his turn, President Igor Dodon stated inadmissibility of revising the contest results.
